Measurements and Challenges of Adult Deaths Completeness in India and Selected States: An Analytical Study of Different Methodologies
Ajit Yadav, International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS)
The reliable demographic and health data are key to track progress of human development in any country. In absence of reliable civil registration system, sample registration system beginning in 1970 is the only source of information that allows us not only to track MDG (U5MR, MMR etc) but also provides input to calculate HDI, measure gender gap, immature adult deaths. Not being open source and highly guarded/protected system, evaluation of such data from time to time is imperative. Since 2001, there has not been any attempt to examine the quality of SRS. In this context, present paper is an attempt to assess the quality of SRS data and methods at national as well as state level. Brass Growth Balance, Bennett and Horiuchi and Generalized version of Growth Balance Method are proposed to populations that are closed and stable, closed and open to migration respectively.
